Are You Glorifying God?

Glory (noun): high renown or honor won by notable achievements; magnificence or great beauty; the splendor and bliss of heaven; praise, worship and thanksgiving offered to a deity.

Glory (verb): take great pride or pleasure in.

Glory (synonyms): prestige, distinction, eminence, acclaim, adoration, veneration, reverence, exaltation, grandeur, majesty, rejoice in.

Now, we have clear picture of ‘glory.’

When Moses went up to the mountain, the cloud covered it. The glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days. The appearance of the LORD’s glory to the Israelites was like a consuming fire on the mountaintop. Ex. 24:15 – 17. CSB

God’s glory, (Shekinah), reflects His power and Divine light. Wherever it appears, it brings with it His sacredness; and He can confer that sacredness upon a thing or a person:

“…at the doorway of the tent of meeting before the LORD, where I will meet with you, to speak with you…and it shall be consecrated by My glory. I will consecrate Aaron and his sons to minister to Me.” Ex. 29:42 – 44. NASB

However, there are conditions one must meet to have this consecration take place:

…the whole community came forward and stood before the LORD. Moses said, “This is what the LORD commanded you to do, that the glory of the LORD may appear to you.” Then Moses said to Aaron, “Approach the altar and sacrifice your sin offering and your burnt offering; make atonement for yourself and the people.” Lv. 9:5 – 7. CSB

…in the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment is revealed. He will repay each one according to his works: eternal life to those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality; but wrath and anger to those who are self-seeking and disobey the truth while obeying unrighteousness. Rm. 2:5 – 8. CSB

To be able to access God’s glory, you must make atonement for your sins. Thank God for His infinite mercy, that is in Christ who died for us, that we can have that very thing. Thus, we need to seek Jesus out and make Him the Lord of our lives and then do our best to walk the God walk.

How big is God’s glory? It’s as infinite as He is:

“…as I live, all the earth will be filled with the glory of the LORD.” Nm. 14:21 NASB

The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Ps. 19:1 NASB

God gave this same glory to His Son:

“I kept looking at the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven one like a Son of Man was coming, and He came up to the Ancient of Days and was presented before Him. And to Him was given dominion, glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations and men of every language might serve Him.” Dan. 7:13, 14. NASB

And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. Jn. 1:14 NASB

God is not stingy with His glory:

What is man that You thought of him, and the son of man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than God, and you crown him with glory and majesty! You make him to rule over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet… Ps. 8:4 – 6. NASB

Our glory manifests as a gift from God, (as we were made in His image); and He is the whole source of it:

My salvation and glory depend on God, my strong rock. Ps. 62:7 CSB

And it is conferred through Christ:

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one…” Jn. 17:22 NASB

We give God glory when we find pleasure in Him, when we honor Him with worship, and when we tell of His goodness:

Glory in His holy name; let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad. 1 Chr. 16:10 NASB

Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; bring an offering, and come before Him; worship the LORD in holy array. 1 Chr. 16:29 NASB

Sing the glory of His name; make His praise glorious. Ps. 66:2 NASB

Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples. Ps. 96:3 NASB

We glorify God just because of who He is:

…to Your name give glory because of your lovingkindness, because of Your truth. Ps. 115:1 NASB

And we focus on that glory, even when times get tough:

For I consider [from the standpoint of faith] that the sufferings of the present life are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us! Rm. 8:18 AMP

In fact, to the best of our ability, we should live our lives solely for the glory of God:

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all for the glory of God. 1 Cor. 10:31 ESV

If we do that, God will slather us with that same glory:

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit. 2 Cor. 3:18 NASB

God is also glorified when we glorify His Son:

…every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Phil. 2:11 NASB

Amen; and we must confess it to as many as possible, because those who will not accept Him have a grim ending:

…many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction; their god is their stomach; their glory is in their shame. They are focused on earthly things, but our citizenship is in heaven… Phil. 3:18 – 20. CSB

Our ending doesn’t end…

…because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth. It was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thess. 2:13, 14. NASB

Always, let us glorify God and Jesus, by letting it be the center focus of all we do. Let us find our primary pleasure in them for their magnificence and love, and everything that are fruits of that: kindness, forgiveness, mercy, salvation, and life; and kneel gratefully in awe at everything they have created for us in this universe. How mighty are our blessings!

Glory! Glory! Glory!

Goodnight and God bless.
